Pediatric cardiac catheterization is applied for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to children with congenital and acquired heart diseases. Aim: To evaluate the effect of educational guidelines on mothers' emotional status regarding children undergoing cardiac catheterization. Design: A quasi-experimental research design with a pre-and post-test was used. Setting: The study was conducted at the intensive care, catheterization, and cardiac care unit at Sohag University Hospital. Subjects: A convenient sample of 70 mothers of children who diagnosed with cardiac defects undergoing cardiac catheterization was involved in the current study. Tools for data collection Two tools were used in the current study first tool was mothers’ interviewing questionnaire (pre/post), which included demographic characteristics; and mothers’ knowledge regarding cardiac catheterization and second tool was Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). Results: After implementation of the guidelines, significant relationship and improvements were detected between mothers' knowledge about their children's cardiac catheterization than before and mothers' emotional status (stress, depression, and anxiety levels) were severe before implementation of the guidelines while these levels become low after guidelines implementation. Conclusion: The guidelines for mothers of children undergoing cardiac catheterization had a positive effect on improving their knowledge and minimizing mothers' emotional disturbances like depression, anxiety, and stress regarding their children's cardiac catheterization after implementation of the guidelines than before. Recommendations: The guidelines for mothers of children undergoing cardiac catheterization should be conducted to raise their awareness. Psychological support and intervention activities should be carried out to help mothers to become emotionally stable

Abstract: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a great global public health concern, caused by SARS-COV2 and represents the causative agent of a potentially fatal disease. Aim: evaluate the effect of tele-nursing education program on nurses’ compliance with standard precautions during COVID-19 pandemic.A quasi-experimental research design was used. Setting: The study conducted at Specialized Medical Hospital, Mansoura, Egypt. Sample: 218 nurses transversely various clinical units of the hospital. Two tools were used in data collection; a structured interviewing questionnaire, and the compliance with standard precautions scale (CSPS). Results revealed that there was a highly statistically significant difference in all items of compliance with standard precautions scale between pretest and posttest with p value Conclusion: Application of the tele-nursing education program had a positive effect on improving the CSPS of the studied nurses as the tele-nursing appears to be a new opportunity in the COVID-19 Pandemic disaster to lessen hazard of infection. Recommendations: Written universal precautions guidelines for infection control should be available and updated periodically

Abstract Background: COVID-19 is a contagious beefily infectious respiratory disease; it's a public health emergency that performs varying degrees of respiratory, physical and psychological dysfunction. Aim of the study: to evaluate the effect of the rehabilitation program on dyspnea, physical activities and psychological wellbeing among patients with COVID19. Methods: quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study. The study was carried out in intensive care (ICU) and post COVID recovery unit at Qena Respiratory Hospital. A convenience sample of 50 adult patients from both sexes. The study tools; Tool 1: Self-reports Assessment Questionnaire. Tool 2: International Physical Activity Scale Tool 3: psychological symptoms scale. Tool 4: Clinical data base: includes laboratory investigation of lung function and ABGs, addition to chest tomography. Results: A significant statistically difference was found regarding symptoms associated total pain, pain intensity, dyspnea scores, physical activities, and psychological wellbeing of the studied sample between the pre and post assessment at the first week and second week post discharge and after the implementation of the rehabilitation program with p= 0.001. Conclusion: implementation of the rehabilitation program had statistically significant improvement in dyspnea scores, physical activities, anxiety, depression, pulmonary function, and laboratory investigations among patients with COVID 19. Recommendation: rehabilitation programs should be designed and implemented as individualized programs following a comprehensive evaluation.

Abstract Background: The World Health Organization has declared Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) a pandemic. Controlling its spread is being attempted at both the global and national levels. Aim: the aim of this study was to determine the effect of teaching guidelines on knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding covid19 among the first year nursing students. Subjects and method: Aquasi experimental design with pre –post assessment was used to conduct the study. Setting: The study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing, Zagazig University. Subject: Students in first year at Faculty of Nursing, Zagazig University (286 from 800 students). Tool: data collected, by used an Interview form: included student's characteristics, COVID-19 knowledge, questions regarding attitudes toward COVID-19, as well as preventive measures and infection control about personal hygiene and infection control, an observational checklist regarding technique of using mask, and hand-washing. Results: There was a significant improvement of student's knowledge score post guidelines. Also there was a significant improvement of their practice, and the majority of them had positive attitude toward COVID-19. Conclusion, there was a strong positive correlation between total student's knowledge, attitude, and their reported practice regarding COVID-19 with highly statistically significant differences (P=000). Recommendation, Application of the current Coronavirus preventive health programs at all other nursing faculties in Egypt to raise their knowledge and enhance their attitude.

Abstract Background: Acid-base disorders are very common in critically ill as well as contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality. Aim: To evaluate the effect of acid-base disorders on mortality and level of consciousness for patients admitted to ICU. Design: descriptive exploratory research design was utilized to conduct this study .Setting: This study was carried out in anesthesia intensive care units at Assiut university hospital. Sample: One hundred sixty adult male and female patients. Tools: Two tools were used in this study, the Critically Ill Patients Characteristics tool, and Acid-base parameters assessment tool. Result: more than one third of the patients (36.3%) had respiratory alkalosis and was the most common acid-base disorder observed on admission . Metabolic acidosis and respiratory acidosis was associated with higher mortality (36.4%), and (22.75). Length of ICU stay was significantly higher in non-survivors (10.23±6.91 versus 7.60±4.69, p= 0.007). Mortality was significantly higher in the GCS < 9 group with metabolic acidosis (37.5 % versus 33.3 %, p=0.033). Conclusion: Respiratory alkalosis was a common acidbase disorder. Acidemia whether due to metabolic or respiratory acidosis is associated with increased mortality in ICU patients. Low GCS low is associated with increased mortality especially in the patients with metabolic acidosis. Recommendation: Closely monitoring and early managment is important to correct acid-base imbalance to avoid poor patient outcomes.

Abstract: Regular exercises are of fundamental importance in the successful long-term management of Ankylosing Spondylitis. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of a specific exercise program on spinal and joints stiffness for patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Design: Quasi experimental research design was utilized. Subjects: Random sample of adult patients (30), male and female, their age ranging from 20 – 60 years old. Setting: Rheumatology and rehabilitation department and outpatients’ clinics at Assiut University Hospital. Tools: Interview Questionnaire consisted of four parts; patient assessment, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index, Health assessment Questionnaire for spondyloarthropathies, and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index. Results: statistically significant difference between pre and post-test mean score of bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index (66.66 ± 6.29 and 37.66 ± 4.78) respectively with p. value (0.0001), health assessment questionnaire for spondyloarthropathies (45.333 ± 9.20 pre versus 22.066 ± 2.148 post) with p. value (0.006), and bath ankylosing spondylitis metrology index with pre and post-test mean score (4.640 ± 0.870 and 1.413 ± 0.319) respectively with p. value (p= 0.0001).Conclusion: the specific exercise program has a valuable effect on patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis on their physical function, and stiffness (mobility of the axial skeleton). Recommendations; Applying the specific exercise program on the patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis at different rehabilitation units to decrease the spinal and joint stiffness.

Abstract Nurses are more susceptible to stress compared to other nurses and they are in need to use many coping strategies to help them to cope with stress. Aim: To investigate the association between perceived stress and coping strategies among nurses in intensive care units. Research Design: A descriptive research design was used in the current research. Setting: The study was applied in five intensive care units include the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU), general at Sohag University Hospital, and the obstetric critical care unit, general and pediatric intensive care unit at South-Valley University Hospital. Subjects: A convenient sample was used in this research which included all the nurses in the previously mentioned setting (70 nurses). Tools for data collection: Tool I: Self-administered questionnaire. Tool II: Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) and Tool III: the Brief COPE Inventory. Results: The majority of the nurses reported a moderate stress level and one-quarter of them reported a severe level of stress. There was a highly statistically significant relationship between perceived stress and coping strategies in intensive care unit nurses. Conclusion: It was found that using a variety of coping strategies can be effective in reducing stress among nurses in intensive care units. Recommendation: Raising awareness and education of the nurses in intensive care units regarding coping strategies to help them cope with stress.

Abstract: The nurse manager offers crucial leadership for safe work, settings, and maintaining the best environment for achieving high quality of patients’ outcomes, these to achieve the organizational objectives. The improvement of skills, that it is often underestimated, where the nurse managers are vital to success. Strive nursing leaders as providers during their job transfer from a clinical place. Aim of the study: To assess nurse managers' competencies and its relation to their leadership styles. Setting: This study was conducted at the Oncology Center, Mansoura University. A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Subjects: The sample was composed of all nurse managers who are working during data collection (n=65). Tools: 1) Nurse Managers competency inventory (NMCI), and 2) Nurse Managers leadership styles. The results revealed that more than half of nursing managers demonstrate a high level of domain conduct daily unit operations, while, slightly less than half of study nurse managers had a low level of total competency and the higher mean scores of transformational leadership style were observed which the nurse manager always uses the idealized influence. The study concluded that there is a highly statistically significant relation between the nurse manager’s competencies and the leadership style nursing managers.The study recommended that management, competency development introduced & emphasized within the nursing curriculum; also an orientation management training program to be developed and conducted for new nurse managers regarding leadership, management functions and required skills, as well as how they deal with different situations

Abstract: Background: Numerous parents confront challenges to reply to their children' sexual issues. These issues are usually unexpected, but responding in a positive and proportional manner to them is the most difficult aspect of parenting. Aim: to explore the parents' attitude towards sex-education for their children. Design: Descriptive design was used in this study. Convenient sample of 545 parents were recruited for this study. Setting: Assiut University employees' work place. Tool: A structured interview questionnaire which includes 2 parts; 1- Personal data for both parents such as age, education, residence and number of their children. 2- Parents' attitude scale which was developed by the researchers to investigate parent' attitude toward sex education, it includes 29 statements with response of Yes/No. Results: There was positive attitude among more than three-quarters of participated parents, 58.5% of them reported that both mother and father are responsible for sex education. There are statistically significant relation between parents' talk about sex education, parents' sex, and mother education (P= 0.000, and 0.001). Conclusion & Recommendations: The majority of studied parents have positive attitudes towards sex-education to their children. Sex and age of parents, mother' education, and residency are factors which influences their attitudes. Conducting more research on trends towards sex education in a larger sample, and arrange obligatory training program and workshops for parents of 10 years or more children on their sex education.

Background: Simulation in nursing has been the trend as one of the teaching modalities during laboratory session. Contemporaneous, the use of mannequin and peer simulated patient serves as a medium to depict patient in providing necessary competencies in the realm of nursing mainly in Health Assessment course. Aim: To investigate the effect of moderate-fidelity mannequin vs peer simulated patient on nursing students experience and level of competency. Method: 80 nursing students enrolled in Health Assessment course at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Science were recruited in the current study; data was collected by questionnaire and competency checklist. Results: The study results revealed that there was a statically significance difference regarding the total experience and total competency mean scores among the study and control groups (t= 10.039, P= .000 & t= 3.791, P= .000 respectively) towards the use of Peer Simulated Patient. Conclusion and Recommendation: Nowadays many nursing schools have started to utilize simulation-based nursing teaching and learning, however, simulation-based learning should be applied blended with the peer simulation in teaching to improve the undergraduate nursing students’ clinical experience and assessment skills.

Background: Nurses may vary in communication skills as well as in their desire to really understand the patient, peers and others this could compromise the issue of advocacy. So it is important to improve nurses’ communication competence to effective nurses’ self-advocacy. Study aim to evaluate the effect of designed program of communication competence on nurses' self-advocacy. Research design: quasi experimental research design used. Subjects: No. = (42) staff nurses. Setting; Sohag University Hospital Tool; consists of three parts; 1) personal characteristics; 2) Communication Competence Scale; and 3) Self-Advocacy Scale. Results: mean score of total communication competencies at pre intervention (78.31±16.74), post (112.67±10.61), and follow up (106.17±9.7). Mean score of total self-advocacy at pre intervention (19.17±3.999), post (30.26±3.85), and follow up (25.81±3.4498). Conclusion; there were positive correlation between communication competence and self-advocacy with highly statistical significant difference. Recommendations: implementation of communication training program in nursing education, assess communication competency among nurses periodically, and undergraduate nursing programs should contain communication competency course.

Abstract Background: Advanced nursing interventions for patients diagnosed with cancer included progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) training that has positive effects on anxiety and sleep pattern. Aim: To evaluate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation technique on anxiety and sleep pattern among newly women with breast cancer. Design: A quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest was used in this study. Sample: A convenient sample of 80 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer that equally was divided into two groups. Setting: This study was conducted at the inpatient and outpatient clinic of Fayoum Oncology Center and University Hospital. Tools: Three tools were used: (I) an Interview Structured Questionnaire, (II) Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI), and (III) Sleep State Self-Rating Scale (SRSS). Results: The results of the present study indicated that the mean age of the women was 46.51 ± 12.03 years. There were significant differences in anxiety score and improvement in sleep quality score after the intervention (p < 0.05) of the progressive muscle relaxation. Conclusion: The current study concluded that progressive muscle relaxation has been found to reduce anxiety and improve sleep pattern among women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Recommendations: Providing an educational program to women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer regarding progressive muscle relaxation technique and how to perform and its benefit.

Abstract Palliative care is an interdisciplinary provider and a basic technique to care that improves quality of life and alleviates struggling for the ones residing with critical illness, irrespective of prognosis. Aim of the study was to assess quality of life for gynecological cancer patients managed at Women’s Health Hospital and assess the needs of these patients for palliative care Subjects and methods: Descriptive cross sectional study was applied on 50 women who suffered from gynecological cancer, conducted at inpatients' gynecological oncology′s unit at Women Health Hospital, Assiut University, two tools were used structured interview questionnaire and FACIT-Pal questionnaire, the last one contained 46-item to degree of self-reported health-related quality of life. Results: About 46.0%, 22.0% and 32.0%of studied women had low, moderate and high quality of life respectively, and 68.0% of them need palliative care .Conclusion: Most patients of gynecological cancer need palliative care. Recommendations: Provision the Palliative care for all gynecologic cancer patients from the start of diagnosis.

Abstract: Background: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) consider the golden treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Aims: To evaluate the effect of pre-operative nursing instructions on the potential post-operative complications after TURP. Study design: A quasi-experimental research design (study-control) was utilized. Setting: Assiut Urology and Nephrology Hospital, Assiut University. Subjects: Eighty male patients undergoing TURP. Tools: Two tools were utilized for data collections including the following: Tool I: Patient assessment sheet: it contained demographic data, pre-operative clinical data, and assessment of postoperative complications. Tool II: Patient’s knowledge questionnaire. Results: the age of the majority of the patients in both study and control groups (95% and 92.5% respectively) and was between 50-65years old for study and control groups. The main pre-operative symptoms were terminal dribbling and inability to empty the bladder (75% and 67.5%) among the study group and (72.5% and 70% respectively). A significant differences between both groups regarding the total knowledge and postoperative complications (P = 0.001* and r.= - 0. 720). Conclusions: Pre-operative nursing instructions improve patients’ knowledge and reduce the rates of TURP complications Recommendations: Routine use of pre-operative nursing instructions for patients undergoing TURP.

Abstract Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is one of the most common preventable causes of death in trauma patients. Therefore, mechanical prophylaxes Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs) are important part for prevention of VTE in trauma patient. Aim: to determine the effect of sequential compression devices on venous thromboembolism prevention in mechanically ventilated trauma victim. The Researcher usedquasi-experimental research design to conduct this study.This research was performed in the trauma ICU at Assiut University Hospital. Sample: A convenient sample of sixty patients entered to trauma ICU. They were split into two groups at random: in control and study group (30 patients each).Tools: Tool I: Modified patient assessment tool, Tool II: - patients’ outcomes Assessment sheet. Results of the present study mentioned that study group subjects had lower incidence of VTE (6.66% vs 36.7% among control group), also lower mean length of stay (7 days vs 13.6 days for control group), and lower mean days of MV in study subjects than control group with P=0.000. Conclusion: combination of mechanical and pharmacological prophylaxis help in improve outcomes by reducing incidence of VTE, length of stay and mechanical ventilator days Recommendations: Developing strategies that necessitate training healthcare providers to enhance performance, improve patient’ outcomes, and fulfill effectiveness of mechanical prophylaxis devices.

Abstract: Background: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening complication of diabetes, Assessment of risk factors play important roles in decreasing morbidity and mortality secondary to diabetic ketoacidosis. Aim: To assess risk factors for diabetic ketoacidosis among diabetic patients at Sohag University Hospital. Research design: Casecontrol retrospective research design had been utilized. Setting: The study was conducted in Emergency Medical unit, Internal Medicine department, and Outpatient Clinics of diabetes at Sohag University Hospital. Sample: 160 adult diabetic patients enrolled in this study. Tool: Patient assessment sheet for diabetic ketoacidosis was utilized for data collections during the period from January 2019 and ended October 2020. Results: The finding shows that age (p-value <0.01) as non-modifiable risk factors, dehydration (p-value <0.01), infection (p-value <0.01) poor compliance with treatment (p-value <0.01) and acute pancreatitis (p-value <0.01) were modifiable risk factors. There was highly statistical significant (p-value <0.01) association between DKA and risk factors. Conclusions: This study found strong associations between DKA and risk factors such as age, infection, poor compliance with treatment, dehydration, acute pancreatitis, emotional stress, surgery, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Recommendations: Modifiable risk factors have a significant role in the development of Diabetic Ketoacidosis, so a complete multidisciplinary diabetes education should be accessible to control these factors.

Abstract: Background: Patient with biliary stent should have life style modifications to help in minimizing post stent complications. Aim: Evaluate the effect of implementing nursing teaching protocol on health promotion life style for patients with plastic biliary stent. Research design: Quasi-experimental (Pre/test) research design. Setting: endoscopy unit at El-Rajhy hospital in Assuit University Hospital. sample: A convenience sample of 60 male and female adult patients Tools: (I), Patient assessment Tools: (II), Health promotion Model-instruments Results: A statistically significance difference between study and control pre and post three months of implementing nursing teaching protocol regarding health promotion life style with P. value 0.001. Conclusion: there was a great improvement in health promotion life style after implementation of nursing teaching protocol than pre. Recommendations: Simple instructions hand book should be available for patients about post-operative complications and patients health promotion life style of plastic biliary stent.

Abstract: Back ground: intensive care unit nurses should be able to perform liver graft assessment post liver transplantation and learn principle of care to identify and manage any problem during ICU staying. Aim: this research was carried out to investigate the effect of implementing nursing care of patients post liver transplantation on nurses performance. Study design: Quasi-experimental research design was utilized in this study. Setting: intensive care unit at Alrajhey liver hospital at Assiut University hospitals. Sample: A convenience sample of all available nurses. The sample size was 30 nurses. Tools: Utilizing two tools, Nurse's knowledge questionnaire and Observational checklist. Results: Finding of the present study revealed that significant statistically correlation between total nurses’ knowledge and skills regarding assessment of liver graft function and intensive care post liver transplantation which indicated positive relation between knowledge and skills. Finding of the present study revealed that insignificant relationship between information and skills regarding assessment of liver graft function and intensive care post liver transplantation and their socio - demographic data. Conclusion: Nurses` knowledge and practice regarding assessment of liver graft function in ICU and becomes to the satisfactory level after the educational program. Recommendation: Nurses need for continuous training programs to increase their performance regarding assessment of liver graft function post liver transplantation

Context: Hysterectomy is the most common gynecologic surgical procedure among reproductive aged women in which complications with serious consequences may occur, thereby discharge planning for women undergoing hysterectomy is considered a strategy for promoting their health and wellbeing. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of implementing a discharge plan on women undergoing Hysterectomy. Methods: A Quasiexperimental (study/control group) design was utilized in this study. A purposive sample of 60 women recruited in this study that conducted at the Gynecological unit at Ain shames university maternity hospital. The study utilizes Four tools, I) Structured Interviewing Questionnaire, II) Structured self-care ability questionnaire III) Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), IIIV) in addition to follow up record and developed supportive material (discharge plan). Results: The present study revealed statistically significant differences between the study and control group regarding their total practice scores, mean pain score as well as health problems after hysterectomy pre, post, and follow up of intervention (P ≤ 0.001). Conclusions: The present study concluded that the implementation of a discharge plan has improved women’s self-care practices post-hysterectomy in addition to a reduction in health problems and pain scores among studied women. The study Recommended: an updated discharge plan regarding self-care should be included in routine care for women undergoing hysterectomy. Also, further research is still needed to investigate the association between discharge plan and developing complications.
