Impact of implementation of Nursing Instructions and Exercises Training on Quality of life for Patients undergoing Pelvic Fixation Surgery

Abstract

Background: Pelvic fracture is disruptions to the bony structure of the pelvis, it account for 10% of all blunt trauma admissions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of implementation of nursing instructions and exercises training on quality of life for patients undergoing pelvic fixation surgery. Research design: A quasiexperimental research design was utilized. Setting: The study was conducted at the trauma unit and outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospitals, Egypt. Subjects: A total of eighty patients (80) Male and female suffering from pelvic fracture and treated with pelvic fixation surgery, 40 patients being randomly allocated to both the study and control group. Those patients were recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Tools: (I) Patient assessment and (II) Rand short form (SF) 36 items questionnaire Results: there was a statistically significant difference in total quality of life between the study and control groups at three months postoperative p = 0,023* . there was a highly statistically significant difference in total quality of life between the study and control groups 6 months and one year postoperative p= 0.001** and 0,001** respectively. Conclusion: Application of nursing instructions and exercises training following pelvic fixation surgery achieved statistically significant improvement in patients’ quality of life p= 0.001** . Recommendations: All patients undergoing pelvic fixation surgery should have access to a discharge planning and education booklet, which can be provided in the trauma unit.
