Effect of Implementing Educational Training Program on Critical Care Nurses’ Performance Regarding Emergency Situations of Dengue Fever Patients

Abstract

Background: Dengue fever is a serious viral infection and quickly spreading by the bite of the mosquitos. All nurses should be aware of the symptoms and preventive measures of dengue fever. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of educational training program on critical care nurses’ performance regarding emergency situations of dengue fever patients. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used in the present study. Setting: This study was conducted in the emergency and intensive care department of Qena Fever hospital. Subjects: A convenient sample of all nurses (40 nurses) of both sexes in these departments. Tools: Two tools were used: Tool I: Nurses’ knowledge assessment questionnaire sheet. Tool II: Nurses’ Observational checklist. The results revealed that the majority of nurse were female and single and their mean age was (24 ± 2.26) years. the mean score of nurses' knowledge was higher immediately after program (18.50 ± 0.72) than the pre-program with mean score was (5.70 ± 2.66) and decrease slightly in the follow up (15.78 ± 2.17). Conclusion: The study concluded that the educational program led to improvement the total level of knowledge and practice regarding dengue fever among nurses. Recommendation: Applying the program on a larger sample in the same study place and conducting in all departments of hospital.
