Health related Quality of Life among Children with Familial Mediterranean Fever: Mother’s Educational Program

Abstract
Background: Familial Mediterranean Feve in children is a lifelong condition characterized by recurring, self resolving fever and inflammation episodes that disrupt daily activities and development. These unpredictable attacks impact quality of life across multiple dimensions, challenging children's sense of normalcy during critical developmental stages. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of mother’s educational program on health- related quality of life among their children with Familial Mediterranean Fever. Research Design: A quasi experimental research design was utilized. Setting: The research was carried out at pediatrics and rheumatology outpatients' clinics. Sample: A purposive sample of 50 mothers accompanying their children with Familial Mediterranean Fever. Tools: two tools were used for data collection, the first tool was a structured interviewing questionnaire entails of four parts: part I: mothers’ demographic data, part II: children demographic data, part III: Medical history of children with Familial Mediterranean Fever, part IV: mothers’ knowledge regarding Familial Mediterranean Fever, the second tool was Pediatric Quality of Life inventory for children. Results: The majority of the studied mothers had an improvement in their total knowledge scores regarding Familial Mediterranean Fever throughout the educational program implementation phases and improvement in the total quality of life for their children after implementation of the program. Conclusion: a statistically significant positive correlation between the total mean score of mothers’ knowledge and the total quality of life scores of their children regarding Familial Mediterranean Fever during the pre- and follow-up program implementation phases (P < 0.001). Recommendations: Provide continuous health education for mothers regarding Familial Mediterranean Fever and monitoring their children's Quality of Life.
