Abstract
Background: Compliance to therapeutic recommendations is crucial for patients with heart failure as it reduces hospitalizations, lowers mortality, and improves quality of life. Identifying the determinants influencing compliance can enhance patient outcomes and optimize disease management. Aim: This study aimed to identify the determinants of compliance to therapeutic recommendations and self mangement among patients with heart failure. Methods: Adescriptive research design was used. The study included 61 patients (39 males, 22 females) diagnosed with heart failure who attended the cardiovascular department over six months (December 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024). Setting: Thisstudy carried out in cardiovascular departement at Assiut University Heart Hospital. Tools: Data were collected using a structured patient assessment sheet, including demographic and medical data, the Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale, and the Revised Heart Failure Compliance Questionnaire. Results: Significant variations were found in patients' knowledge of heart failure self-management. While most patients understood heart function (98.4%) and the importance of weight monitoring (93.4%), knowledge gaps in daily management practices were evident. Conclusion: Astrong positive correlation was observed between patients’ knowledge and compliance to heart failure treatment recommendations, emphasizing the need for improved education. Recommendation: Structured educational programs should be implemented to enhance patients' understanding of heart failure management and promote compliance to therapeutic recommendations.
