Abstract
Background: Cardiac arrest survival rates are increased with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Few occurrences involve CPR, even though the majority are witnessed and take place at home. CPR is crucial for family members of patients who have a high risk of cardiovascular disease because of this. Aim of the Study: to assess the Family Caregivers’ Competence in Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Diabetic Patients with Cardiovascular Disease. Research design: This study will be conducted using a descriptive exploratory research design. Setting: The study will be carried out at in coronary care unit at cardiac Assiut university hospital. Sample: This study included a sample of 50 family caregivers of diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease. Tools: tool I Family caregiver knowledge assessment questionnaire, tool II family care giver practice assessment observational check list, tool III family care giver attitude assessment. Results: the findings revealed that 78% of family caregivers lacked adequate knowledge about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).Furthermore, 84%demonstrated insufficient CPR-related practices, and 80% exhibited a negative attitude toward CPR. Statistically Significant Positive correlation between knowledge, practice and attitude about CPR for Diabetic Patients with Cardiovascular Disease (P .value <0.001). Conclusion: the majority of family caregivers of patients showed significant deficiencies in knowledge, practical skills, and attitudes related to CPR. Recommendation: It is recommended to implement structured training and educational programs to enhance CPR knowledge and skills among family caregivers.
