Nursing Students’ Perceptions of Green Education and Their Attitudes Toward Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract

Background: Green education is important because it can address global concerns such as environmental degradation, resource depletion, and climate change. Aim: Assess nursing students’ perception of green education and their attitudes towards sustainable development goals Design: Descriptive correlational research design. Setting: This study was carried out at two Upper Egypt nursing institutes; Assiut, and South Vally Universities. Sample: A random sample of 381 nursing students. Tools: Two tools were used in the study: Tool I:  consists of two parts, part (a): students’ Personal data sheet, part (b): The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM). In addition, the Tool II: Student’s attitude towards sustainable development goals Results: The majority of student 85.1% students at Technical Nursing Institute Assiut University and 95.2% of students at Technical Nursing Institute South Valley University reported a positive perception of the educational environment. 66.0% of the students at Technical Nursing Institute Assiut University and 98.6% of those at Technical Nursing Institute South Valley University exhibited a positive attitude toward sustainable development goals (SDG). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between students’ total perception and their total attitude toward sustainable development goals at the Technical Nursing Institute, Assiut University and south valley University. Recommendations: Adopting green education in nursing curricula and evaluating the effectiveness of different teaching strategies in shaping positive attitudes toward (SDG).
