Abstract

Background: Acute dyspnea is a common and potentially life-threatening condition in critical care settings, requiring nurses to have adequate knowledge and skills for safe and successful administration of oxygen treatment. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of implementation educational program on critical care nurses performance regarding Administration of oxygen therapy for patients with acute dyspnea . Design: Quasi experimental research design. Sample: All available nurses who working  in emergency units about (60) nurses. Setting: All emergency departments in Tahta public hospital. Tools: two tools were used; Tool (I) Structured interview tool, consists of two parts: part (1) characteristic data, before and after assessment part (2) nurses’ knowledge assessment sheet. Tool (II): nurses, practice assessment tool: Results: After the educational program, nurses’ knowledge improved significantly, with the percentage of those having good knowledge rising from 58.3% to 80.0% (p = .001*). The mean knowledge score also increased notably to (29.38 ± 5.82), showing a strong positive correlation (R = .615) between pre- and post-program scores. Furthermore, most nurses demonstrated satisfactory knowledge and practice in oxygen and nebulization administration after the program, with a statistically significant improvement (p = .001*). Conclusion: A positive correlation was found among knowledge and practice scores before (R = .678 to .598) and after (R = .841 to .810) the program, highlighting the program’s effectiveness.  Recommendations: Develop and implement targeted training programs focused on enhancing nurses' knowledge and skills regarding acute dyspnea, tailored to their demographic profiles and experience levels.
