Abstract
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative joint disease, is typically the result of wear and tear and progressive loss of articular cartilage. It is most common in elderly women and men. Aim. Evaluate the effect of Contrast Hydrotherapy on Pain Intensity And Quality Of Life Outcomes for Patients With Knee OA .Setting: The study was conducted at Assuit University Hospital in out patients’ clinics. Subjects: 90 adult patients with knee osteoarthritis. Tools: were selected three tools Tool I: Bio-socio demographic characteristics Tool II: Numeric pain rating scale. Tool III: WHOQOL questionnaire. Results: Significantly decreased mean scores of pain post contrast hydrotherapy p>0.05 and increased mean scores of all domain of quality of life post one month of contrast hydrotherapy intervention p>0.001. Conclusion: contrast hydrotherapy was significantly effective in reducing pain associated with knee osteoarthritis and improving their quality of life with statistically significance differences .Recommendation: Contrast hydrotherapy should be included in the early effort to manage patients with knee osteoarthritis.
